AncientPlaces is a podcast dedicated to producing gentle, easy to watch films about the ancient world. Inspired by Tony Farley's Beautiful Places podcast, we aim to produce high-quality short films about interesting, and sometimes off-beat, aspects of our heritage. We hope you enjoy them Accessibility Accessibility can be a difficult problem, and a real challenge for anyone owning a website, particularly those who have sites which are graphically intensive like AncientPlaces However, it is vitally important that websites are as accessible as possible. AncientPlaces is making efforts to meet this target, but it is proving difficult - the site is built on a content management system (Joomla) which is not particularly good at providing support in this area, and whilst some developers are working on rectifying this, the results are still a little too unstable to deploy here. This means that the site is still not as accessible as I would wish, and provides disappointingly little support for sight and hearing impaired visitors. I hope to rectify this situation over coming months, and in the meantime have introduced an option to increase and decrease font size at the bottom of every page.
A Note about our Translations AncientPlaces is filmed in locations around the world, and as such we want to be able to provide content in the languages of the locations in which episodes are recorded. We plan to provide support in multiple languages both on the website and via subtitles in the films. At present, however, this multi-lingual capability is restricted to Italian only, and this is currently only available on the website, and not yet in the films. We hope to extend this provision in the near future, but doing so depends on how well our translations are received. We use Google Translate, and whilst the translations look OK, we cannot be sure that we are hitting the mark each time. Especially when we use phrases like 'hitting the mark'!
